Belarus ready to supply pedigree cattle to Russia’s Primorsky Krai

Belarus is ready to supply pedigree cattle to Primorsky Krai of Russia, Belarus’ Food and Agriculture Minister Ivan Krupko said during the talks with a delegation of Russia’s Primorsky Krai headed by Governor Oleg Kozhemyako in Minsk on 21 September, BelTA as learned.

“The Belarusian Food and Agriculture Ministry has been doing its utmost to advance trade and economic relations with Primorsky Krai of Russia. Our agricultural industry has made great advances. It has been expanding this year too, despite the pandemic. So we have a lot to offer. One of our proposals is to design and build dairy and pig complexes, supply equipment. We could be useful to each other in the work with pedigree stock. We can supply pedigree dairy and meat cattle, pigs. Belarus can also supply seeds of spring triticale, spring wheat, perennial herbs (rye grass, festulolium),” Ivan Krupko noted.

The minister also talked about cooperation in personnel training. Every year about 9,000 university and college graduates are sent to work in the agricultural industry in Belarus. There are four agricultural universities in the country. They run scientific and production centers of practical training which include colleges, agricultural companies and research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. According to Ivan Krupko, Belarus is ready to cooperate with Russia’s Primorsky Krai in the field of agricultural education.

He also invited Primorsky Krai of Russia to take part in the 30th edition of the Belagro 2020 international expo which will be held in Minsk from 29 September to 4 October. The event is timed to coincide with the 7th Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia. “We would like to showcase the achievements of our industrial flagships and processing plants, the National Academy of Sciences. There will be an opportunity to visit our enterprises, to find common ground,” the minister said.

Oleg Kozhemyako took note of the high quality of Belarusian goods. According to him, setting up trade houses selling Belarusian agricultural products and consumer goods in Primorsky Krai is currently on the agenda. "We will send representatives of retail networks to Belagro to study product supply possibilities," the governor added.

In January-July the trade in agricultural products and food between Belarus and Russia’s Primorsky Krai amounted to $1.44 million (an increase of 88.9% year-on-year). Export totaled $1.34 million (an increase of 91%). Belarus’ major exports to the Russian region were animal oil, milk powder, cottage cheese, meat and meat products, including sausages, and confectionery. Major exporters were Vitebsk Meat Plant, Kalinkovichi Dairy Plant, Lida Milk Plant, Babushkina Krynka dairy. Belarus imported fish and fish products from Primorsky Krai of Russia.
