Progress of early spring crops planting campaign in Belarus at nearly 90%

Early spring grain crops and leguminous crops have been planted on the areas of 767,600ha, which makes 89.2% of the target, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

Brest Oblast, Gomel Oblast, Mogilev Oblast, Minsk Oblast, and Grodno Oblast have already finished planting early spring crops. Progress is at 54.9% in Vitebsk Oblast. This year these crops will occupy 860,900 hectares in the country.

Belarusian farmers have sown 36,300ha of land (72.2% of the target) with linen flax. As much as 56,900ha of land (62.2% of the target) has been sown with sugar beet. Belarusian farmers have begun planting potatoes (2,082ha or 13% of the target) and vegetables (1,065ha or 36.7%). As much as 54,0000ha of land (19.4% of the target) has been sown with grain maize and 61,500ha (7.2%) has been sown with maize for silage.

BelTA reported earlier that in 2020 spring crops are expected to occupy a total of 2.6 million hectares in Belarus. Linen flax is expected to occupy 50,300ha, sugar beet – 91,500ha, potatoes – 21,700ha, vegetables – 4,500ha, maize – 1,131,500ha.
