Coronavirus projected to start fading in Belarus in 3-4 weeks

The number of coronavirus cases is expected to start falling in 3-4 weeks, Natalya Zhukova, Deputy Health Minister - Chief Public Health Inspector of Belarus, told the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The situation will not be over in 2-3 weeks. However, I would like to note that the situation is manageable. There are reasons to believe that the number of cases will start falling in 3-4 weeks,” Natalya Zhukova said.

She explained that the Healthcare Ministry is closely monitoring the situation with respiratory diseases, therefore such a projection is made. “As the number of respiratory diseases is falling all over Belarus, we believe that in several weeks the situation with coronavirus will stabilize or coronavirus will start dissipating,” the deputy minister noted.

In her words, a lot of work is being done to localize COVID-19 cases. “Each case is viewed as a cluster and contacts are traced. Thus, we break the chain of transmission. This is a mandatory condition for stemming the virus,” she emphasized.

Speaking about statistics, Natalya Zhukova explained that there are people who receive treatment and there are people who tested positive for coronavirus. “These figures cannot coincide. According to WHO, some people test positive for the virus, but display no symptoms, they are just carriers. However, we keep them at home and give them a sick leave in order to prevent them from spreading the infection. More than that, their self-isolation is strictly checked,” she noted.

The deputy minister recalled that people who start displaying symptoms of COVID-19 should seek medical attention, but they should not go to a local clinic, but call in a doctor instead.
