MPs support green economy development in Belarus-Russia Union State

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia believe the development of the green economy in the Union State of Belarus and Russia is promising. The press service of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia made the relevant statement after a session of the Ecology, Nature Management, and Emergency Management Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 18 May, BelTA has learned.

Members of the Union State parliament were informed about prospects of development of the green economy. Participants of the session of the Ecology, Nature Management, and Emergency Management Commission mentioned the importance of joint Belarusian-Russian efforts to shape an economic model that will be geared towards preserving natural assets and reducing the harmful impact on the world. The MPs noted it is necessary to step up cooperation in the Union State of Belarus and Russia in these matters.

The fulfillment of the program on developing the Union State’s hydrometeorological security in 2017-2021 was also discussed. The MPs stated that the program was fully financed in 2020 and all the projects were carried out. It was also noted that the program’s implementation proceeded according to plan in Q1 2021, with expenses staying within limits of the appropriated Union State funding.

The reconciliation of the draft concept of the Union State program on developing modern technologies for geological studying, rational and environmentally safe usage of subsoil resources of Russia and Belarus was also discussed. The program is aimed at introducing economically effective and environmentally safe innovative technologies and software for geological studying and increasing the recovery of mineral resources, for minimizing the negative impact on the environment in the course of extraction, processing, and transportation of mineral resources. The Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry and the Russian Science and Higher Education Ministry are expected to become customers of the program. The draft concept is going through the reconciliation process. Remarks from financial authorities of Belarus and Russia have been received. The MPs recommended that the developers of the program should address the remarks and polish the documents.
