The second stage of the Belarusian-Russian army exercise Slavyanskoye Bratstvo 2020 [Slavonic Brotherhood] will begin on 22 September, the Defense Ministry told BelTA.
The second stage is a tactical exercise that will last till 25 September. The troops will mainly focus on working together in order to ensure the military security of the state. Deputy Defense Minister, Major-General Sergei Potapenko will oversee this stage of the exercise.
Taking part in the exercise are military personnel of the Western Operational Command, special operations forces of the Belarusian army, the Air Force and Air Defense Command, missile troops and artillery units, and units of the Russian army. A total of about 6,000 military personnel, over 500 units of military hardware will be involved in the practical phase of the exercise. The Russian army will be represented by about 1,000 military personnel and up to 100 units of military hardware.
The Belarusian-Russian army exercise Slavyanskoye Bratstvo 2020 is purely defensive and is designed to allow Belarusian and Russian army units to practice working together in line with the existing agreements between Belarus and Russia, the Defense Ministry told BelTA. The exercise is also designed to further enhance and advance integration processes as part of the efforts to bolster the defensive capability of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
