Belarus extends food embargo on goods from Western countries till 31 December 2024

Belarus has extended the food embargo on goods from Western countries until 31 December 2024. The decision is stipulated by the Decree of the Council of Ministers No. 934 of 26 December 2023, which has been published on the national legal internet portal, BelTA has learned.

“To extend until 31 December 2024 inclusively the effect of paragraphs 1 and 3-5 of the Resolution of Belarus' Council of Ministers No.700 of 6 December 2021 “On the application of special measures in respect to certain types of goods,” the document runs.

The resolution, among other things, provides for the import of apples from unfriendly countries from 1 April to 31 July 2024, the government press service said.

The government decree No. 700 of 6 December 2021 introduced a food embargo on a wide list of goods produced in countries, implementing discriminatory policies and hostile actions against Belarus. The import ban applies to a number of goods from the European Union and its member states, the United States of America, Canada, Norway, Albania, Iceland, Northern Macedonia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Montenegro, and Switzerland.

The list of prohibited goods includes pigs, bovine meat, pork, a number of offal products, salted, brined, dried or smoked meat, edible flour from meat or meat offal, milk and dairy products (with certain exceptions), vegetables other than those intended for sowing, fruits and nuts, pork and poultry fat, fat of cattle, sheep or goats, lard, stearin and other animal oils, sausages and similar products, confectionery, salt and other commodities.
