Bus on way to Minsk airport to take two Gaza evacuee families to Grodno Oblast

Two families of Belarusians, who have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip, will travel to their home area of Volkovysk District, Grodno Oblast this night, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Labor, Employment, and Social Protection Committee of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Olga Sedelnik.

A bus is on the way to the Minsk National Airport where it will pick up families, who have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip. They will be met by medics, representatives of municipal authorities, the general public, and the Red Cross. Relatives of the evacuated Belarusians are going to this meeting as well. “Two large families (a total of 10 people, including 6 kids) will travel to Grodno Oblast. To Volkovysk District to be exact. The kids are of different ages. They are eight years old and older. When these families reach Volkovysk District, they will stay in a cottage located in the Energetik sanatorium. They will be offered medical and psychological aid on the spot if necessary,” Olga Sedelnik said. Apart from temporary housing the families will get food packages, hygienic products, blankets, and other things they may need.

According to Olga Sedelnik, specialists will soon find out what the families intend to do. “We will personally inquire what the citizens need, what support measures they require, what kind of aid they need. Depending on their education and preferences, the adults will be offered jobs. If the kids can speak Russian, they will also be offered to go to local schools,” the official noted.

Belavia sent a humanitarian flight from Belarus this morning to pick up the evacuees. It had medics and psychologists from the Emergencies Ministry's special operations unit Zubr on board. Upon arrival they provided the necessary aid both to adults and children. The aircraft is now flying to Belarus.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously reported that the Belarusian side in contact with colleagues from Israel and Egypt and with assistance of Russia and Qatar had organized the evacuation of Belarusian citizens and members of their families from the Gaza Strip. The Belarus citizens, who crossed the border via the border crossing Rafah into Egypt, are being evacuated.
